Dear Colleague Letter regarding third-party services and institutions
The Education Department announced this morning that in response to “confusion” about the guidance, the Dear Colleague Letter will not take effect until Sept. 1, rather than immediately as of Feb. 15. The department will also delay the start of the 30-day comment period on the guidance until today.
Prior the U.S. Department of Education released directives last week regarding how federally-funded higher education establishments, including the majority of American colleges and universities, can collaborate with third-party service providers, such as OPMs and other Edtech companies. Essentially, these new directives prohibit higher education institutions from partnering with service providers based outside the United States and/or owned by non-U.S. citizens. This development could significantly impact all Edtech firms in higher education that are based outside the United States and could even spur a policy change in Europe.

Global Edtech Testbed Network
As one of only 45 organizations globally, the EEA, represented by Beth Havinga has been part of the discussions this week around best practice exchange on the ways of bringing EdTech and the wider ecosystem together in new ways. We are looking forward to developing some new ideas specifically for Europe from this work and helping create meaningful evidence based methods for implementing EdTech.

Edurino raised a 10.5m € Series A
We would like to celebrate the two female founders behind Edurino, a German K12 B2C success story, for raising a 10.5m € Series A.
It is still very rare to see Edtech companies built by female-only founding teams raise a Series A in Europe. We started and run the Female Edtech Fellowship to support female founders on this path.
Edurino has been dedicated to creating innovative and interactive, game-based learning experiences for kids between 4-8+ years old. With this new funding, they'll be able to accelerate the development of new learning worlds, grow their team further, and expand their reach to more learners around the globe! 🌎
Congrats Irene and Franziska!
