Hello, good morning and welcome to our latest monthly update. As always, we’ve rounded up everything you need to know from across the booming European Edtech scene.
The HolonIQ Q3 global Edtech funding report reiterates the current exponential pace of change and growth across our ecosystem. After historically lagging behind, Europe is now the fastest growing region for Edtech investment globally. In fact, the European ecosystem had already generated $2.3 billion in investment by the end of Q3 2021. That’s nearly 3x the funding raised throughout the whole of 2020!
Notably five European Edtechs have raised significant rounds since our last newsletter was published in the middle of September.
The UK’s Multiverse, an Edtech business that matches employers with people seeking apprenticeships, raised $130 million in a Series C round that valued the company at $875 million. (Link)
CoachHub from Germany celebrated $80 million in additional financing. (Link) This increased their overall Series B funding to $110 million and will fund their “…meteoric (global) expansion.”
Spain’s Genially confirmed €20 million in Series B funding to advance their global mission to make content (particularly for education) more engaging and interactive. (Link)
London-based tutoring platform MyTutor grabbed £15 million to accelerate their international expansion. (Link)
myskillcamp announced a €12 million raise to expand their workforce training platform from Belgium into international markets. (Link)
Although most of the above investments are concentrated in the corporate / workforce learning segment, it’s great to see funding covering a broad range of geographies. Based on their recent ecosystem report, we can expect to see continued expansion in the fast-moving Dutch Edtech market. The Netherlands has 406 Edtech startups with a combined value of €800M. With VC investment growing at 90% CAGR since 2016, it’s definitely a market we’ll be keeping a close eye on!
A reminder that entries for HolonIQ’s 2021 Europe EdTech 100 are open until 5th November 2021. This list recognises the most promising Edtech startups across Europe - make sure your company is on the list! Full details here.
And finally, the members of the European Edtech Alliance have voted in a new inner board. Congratulations to Svenia Busson from EdTech France as First Chair; Jannie Jeppesen from the Swedish Edtech Industry as Second Chair and Tobias Himmerich from EDUvation as Treasurer. With these internal structures now finalised, we look forward to welcoming new members - just reply to this email if you’d like further details.
